Tips to start exercising and actually stick to it!

Familiar with that nagging feeling, telling you it's time to start your fitness journey? The one that keeps coming back but then gets taken over by excuses?

We get it and honestly, we’ve heard it all! Starting can be tough, especially if you're new to workout plans or have let physical activity slide for a while. But you're not alone in this, and guess what? It's never too late to take that first step!

Below are four powerful tips we believe make a huge difference when starting out on an exercise journey!

  1. Focus on habit-building - Not Motivation

When it comes to starting your exercise journey, focusing on habit-building rather than relying solely on motivation is a game-changer.

Motivation comes and goes! Some days, you might feel pumped and eager to smash your workouts, while other days, you might find the thought of just putting your shoes on challenging! This is where habit-building steps in and keeps you going, even when motivation takes a temporary backseat.

Building healthy habits creates a strong foundation for your fitness routine and can lead to long-term success. It’s so important to understand that motivation changes over time, but a habit when well-formed will never let you down! Habits help you push forward even when you have low motivation!

2. Accept that results won’t come overnight

We can’t emphasise enough the importance of embracing patience and persistence on your fitness journey. It's essential to understand that results won't happen overnight. Accepting this before you start is key.

Just as Rome wasn't built in a day, achieving your fitness goals requires time, commitment, and consistent effort. It's normal to feel eager and excited to see/feel changes but remember that sustainable progress takes time.

Rather than focusing solely on immediate outcomes, at She Moves we encourage you to celebrate the small victories along the way and appreciate the journey itself. Trust in the process, stay dedicated and in time, the hard work will pay off, and you'll be amazed at the positive transformations both inside and out.

3. Make exercise something to look forward to

Have a think about what makes exercise fun for you. Is it music, is it listening to a podcast, or walking with a friend? Whatever makes you enjoy movement - schedule more of that and it will help keep you on track!

Also, choose a form of exercise that you LOVE, there is no right or wrong way to move your body and there are tons of different exercise options out there.
